Haldex clutch

The term "Haldex coupling" refers to a multi-plate clutch according to the design of the Swedish company with the same name. In SEAT cars with permanent all-wheel drive it permits a variable power distribution between the front and rear axle drives.

The Haldex clutch is controlled electronically as part of the ESC. From the mechanical point of view, slats geared inwards along the axial direction are pressed against each other or separated. Depending on the electronically-controlled locking action, the torque can be transmitted continuously to the rear wheels.

The electronic control of the Haldex coupling interacts permanently with all the signals and commands that contribute to optimum driving dynamics.

A clear advantage over other couplings is, for instance, the quick response time.
