What to do before your NCT Booking
- Bring your driving licence, photo ID and vehicle registration certificate.
- Clean your vehicle inside and out, including lights, mirrors, windows and registration plates.
- Check tyre tread depth (minimum 1.6mm) and ensure all tyres are correctly inflated.
- Test all headlights, brake lights, indicators, wipers, horn and handbrake.
- Top up essential fluids, including engine oil, coolant and washer fluid.
- Ensure seat belts, doors, bonnet and boot are working correctly.
- Remove personal belongings, empty the boot and make the spare tyre accessible.
- Check that no dashboard warning lights are illuminated.
- Remove any OBD devices and keep the glovebox unlocked for inspection access.
- Drive the vehicle before the test so the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
NCT Tip: Faulty lights and incorrect headlamp alignment are among the most common reasons vehicles fail an NCT inspection, so check them carefully before your appointment.
